9th December, 2006 Hello to all our friends and family! We knew July14th was going to be a busy day; simply trying to get out of the house with thirty-six week pregnant Trudy, on our way to Graham’s naturalization ceremony fifty miles away in Baltimore seemed like enough challenge for one day. The much anticipated event was the culmination of an eight year immigration journey, mountains of paperwork and careful travel planning as he became an American citizen along with ninety-nine other immigrants. Later that afternoon while celebrating the day’s events down at the boatyard, Trudy mentioned she wasn’t feeling right and would quite like to head home. A short while later we found ourselves headed to the local maternity unit, ready for the second Norbury to gain his US citizenship that same day. When we welcomed Robert John Norbury into the world at 7.20pm that night, he weighed just 5lb 13½oz and measured 18¼ inches head to toe. Were it not for the photos we took, it’d be hard to remember just how small and fragile he was back then. He’s now full of smiles (except whenever a camera is present) and has grown to a sturdy 14lb 12oz / 24 ½ inches. August was a mixed month, first with joy and relief as Trudy gained her US citizenship, then sadness as we said goodbye to Shadow, our dear friend and loyal sailing companion. Sylvester has been doing his best to fill all feline roles around the house, including keeping a watchful eye on mealtimes, announcing all new arrivals, and most of all, following everyone around in case they might drop something edible! In September, Trudy’s sister Vanessa visited America for the first time, with her five month old son Jared. Despite several days of unexpected rain after a summer-long drought, the weather warmed up enough for Jared to enjoy his first splash in an outside pool, and also a day sail to La Trappe Creek, where we anchored for a couple hours and had a very enjoyable lunch. Graham’s mum, Ann, arrived on the 12th September for an extended stay to help us with Robert and ease Trudy’s load as she reluctantly returned to work at the local hospital. Those first few weeks of leaving Robert at home were both heart wrenching and exhausting. Although Trudy was able to take twelve weeks off after the birth, it’s quite common for new mums to return to work after just six weeks! This fall Graham was able to capture pictures of the local trees during their short but spectacular turn from green to brown – if you haven’t seen them already, you can find them and many others on our website at www.bondcar.com. We hope this reaches you all well, and wish you all a wonderful holiday season. Lot of love, happiness, understanding, giggles and smiles, Graham, Trudy, Robert and Sylvester
