I wanted to be what my mother knew I could be,

She recognized my intelligence and potential,

She could see the light that shone inside me,

My Mother believed in me.

I allowed determination to become my companion,

Through the confusion it served me well,

As I tried so hard to achieve perfection,

My Mother believed in me.

I had muddled the difference between love and growth,

While I embraced growth I allowed love to eluded me,

My love for my mother had been locked away,

My Mother believed in me.

I took the time and space I needed to find who I am,

My cocoon provided me the safety I needed to grow,

So that the beautiful orange butterfly could emerge,

My Mother believed in me.

I have found the inner strength and beauty inside me,

That my mother had always been able to see,

As I journey thought my life I now know,

My Mother believed in me.
